Sarah Hibbert is a modern quilter influenced as much by art and architecture as quilting heritage. Often starting with traditional quilt blocks and giving them an improvisational twist – Sarah’s use of textural fabric, hand stitching, natural, rich tones and clever, but limited use of prints has seen her work show internationally as well as being acquired for both public and private collections. Recently, Sarah has challenged herself to create small paper collages within a limited time-frame. Selecting from these simple pieces, Sarah scales the design to construct quilts that retain the spontaneity of the originals and while showcasing her characteristic quilting style.
With the increase in home craft popularity as a result of covid-19, these projects will provide an opportunity for personal growth and support while waiting for the vaccine and the world to recover.
Sarah takes her inspiration for every day objects around her and often makes use of readily available materials to recycle in her paper collages which she then uses as inspiration for her quilts.
